Writer
Originally from Aberdeen, Tara Hepburn is a Glasgow-based journalist and emerging screenwriter who recently received her first professional credit in television drama, writing episode two of BBC Scotland & BBC One’s flagship mini-series Granite Harbour, for which she was nominated for The TV Foundation’s Debut Writer (Episodic Credit) Award 2023.
Tara began her screenwriting career in 2019 when she was shortlisted for the BBC Comedy Room, reaching the final 30 out of over 1000 applicants. In the same year, she was awarded a scholarship to attend the NFTS Scotland screenwriting course, Writing the TV Pilot, where she developed her comedy-drama thriller All Killer, No Filler, which was longlisted for the 2020 BBC Drama Room and shortlisted for 4Screenwriting 2020.
Tara was named by the BBC as one of their “Scottish Voices” for 2020/21 and invited to participate in a development programme with the company. During her time on Scottish voices, Tara has broadened her writing experience: writing jokes for BBC Scotland’s Breaking the News, contributing ideas for CBeebies Presents, and writing sketches for BBC Short Stuff.
