Writer
Florence Skelton is a new screenwriter currently studying at the National Film and Television School (NFTS). She writes about women, bodies, sex and relationships, often through a dark comedy lens (albeit sometimes, it’s just dark). Inspired by shows such as Girls, The Dry, Pure, and Bad Sisters, she is currently working on several original projects: two comedy-dramas for TV (Click Here to Scream, Big & Little Deaths) and one psychological horror feature (Other).
Florence often collaborates with Hannah van der Westhuysen, longtime best friend and co-writer/creator of Click Here to Scream. The show is partially inspired by their own experiences of navigating life, love and late-stage capitalism in their 20s.
Florence began her career as a production assistant for companies like BBC, Ridley Scott Associates and 2LE Media before moving into writing. As a journalist, she has covered the intersections of art, culture, film, sex and gender for publications like Dazed, i-D, AnOther, British Journal of Photography and Refinery29. As a cultural critic, she has been invited to speak at London Metropolitan University and Belfast Photo Festival (where she delivered the headline talk on the “female gaze”), and to pen a culture column for ITV platform Woo.
She also writes romance and comedy audio fiction for the Calm app and audio erotica for the Flo app.
