Prior to becoming a screenwriter, David Chikwe was an award-winning TV drama and film producer with over twelve years industry experience. David co-created and produced 36 episodes of the BAFTA nominated and RTS-winning series Eve for CBBC/Leopardrama. David currently has three original TV series in development with UK production companies. David is part of the BAFTA Elevate 2023-2024 cohort as writer/producer, and is currently Mentor on the NFTS Diverse Writers Development Programme with Left Bank Pictures.

NFTS Diverse Writers Development Programme - Mentor

In a concerted effort to promote a more inclusive and diverse British film and television industry, the National Film and Television School (NFTS) announced the launch of an exceptional new UK writers development programme, in partnership with Left Bank Pictures. Kicking off from March 2024, the newly formed NFTS Diverse Writers Development Programme has selected six up-and-coming UK screenwriters from under-represented backgrounds to contribute their unique voices to the entertainment landscape and inject fresh perspectives into the world of scripted drama. The chosen writers will embark on a paid, intensive 10-week programme that will immerse them in a dynamic environment of creativity and collaboration. David was asked to join the Programme as a Mentor.

Available – Original 60 min drama series pilot episode about a multi-generational, mixed-race family in the Midlands, which chronicles the parents’ struggles with being in a mixed-race relationship at a time when it wasn’t accepted, and the three adult children’s lives.
