In 2013 James was one of 11 writers selected for development by the BBC Writersroom, having submitted his television drama pilot Darkness Falls. He has since written a further five scripts under the mentoring of the BBC.

James was selected for the 2016 Channel 4Screenwriting Course, writing Karma, a tv drama pilot episode. His first play A Gradual Loss of Control was long-listed for the 2015 Bruntwood Prize. He also successfully completed the BBC Doctors shadow scheme and is currently working on ideas for the series, as well as for original television and film drama.
